  • Customizable: Easily adapt by adding vegetables, swapping the protein, or adjusting the spice level to suit your preferences.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes (chopped)
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 8 oz cooked pasta (penne, fettuccine, or spaghetti)
  • Fresh basil (for garnish)

Directions

  • Step No.1: Cook the Chicken
Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  • Step No.2: Prepare the Sauce
In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  • Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan for extra flavor.

  • Step No.3: Add Cream and Tomatoes
Stir in the heavy cream, sun-dried tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.

  • Let the mixture simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.

  • Step No.4: Combine Chicken and Cheese
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, spooning some sauce over the top.

  • Sprinkle in the grated parmesan cheese and stir gently until melted and fully combined. Let it simmer for another 2 minutes.

  • Step No.5: Mix in Pasta and Serve
Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing everything together to coat evenly.
  • Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot. Enjoy with garlic bread or a fresh salad!

Tips for Success

  • Use Fresh Parmesan: Freshly grated parmesan cheese melts better and enhances the creamy sauce with rich, authentic flavor.

  • Cook Pasta Al Dente: Slightly firm pasta absorbs the sauce well, preventing it from becoming mushy or overcooked.

  • Don’t Overcook Chicken: Cooking until just golden brown ensures juicy, tender bites in every forkful of pasta.

  • Let the Sauce Simmer: Allowing the sauce to cook for a few minutes helps thicken it and blend all the flavors together.

  • Adjust Thickness: If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of chicken broth to loosen it up while stirring.

  • Try Different Pasta: While penne or fettuccine work best, you can experiment with other shapes like rigatoni or linguine.

Variations

  • Add Vegetables: Mix in spinach, mushrooms, or roasted red peppers for extra texture and flavor.

  • Make it Spicier: Increase red pepper flakes or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.

  • Use Different Cheese: Try asiago or gouda instead of parmesan for a unique, rich twist.

  • Make it Lighter: Swap heavy cream for half-and-half or whole milk to reduce richness while keeping it creamy.

  • Try a Low-Carb Option: Replace pasta with zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash for a ketogenic diet-friendly alternative.

  • Add Extra Protein: Toss in crispy bacon bits, shrimp, or grilled sausage for an extra layer of flavor.

Serving and Storage

Serving

Serve hot with garlic bread, a fresh garden salad, or steamed vegetables for a well-balanced, hearty meal.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove over low heat, adding a splash of cream if needed.

FAQ

Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts?

Yes! Chicken thighs are juicier and add more flavor to the dish, making them a great alternative to chicken breasts.

How do I prevent the sauce from becoming too thick?

If the sauce thickens too much, stir in a little chicken broth or cream while reheating to maintain a smooth consistency.

Can I prepare this dish ahead of time?

Yes! You can make the sauce ahead and store it separately from the pasta. Combine and heat before serving for the best texture.

What pasta works best for this recipe?

Penne, fettuccine, and spaghetti all work well, but any pasta that holds the creamy sauce will be a good choice.

Can I freeze Marry Me Chicken Pasta?

It’s not recommended, as the creamy sauce may separate when thawed, affecting the texture and consistency.

Marry Me Chicken Pasta is more than just a meal—it’s a dish that brings comfort, warmth, and restaurant-quality flavor straight to your kitchen.

The creamy, cheesy sauce pairs beautifully with juicy chicken and sun-dried tomatoes, creating an irresistible combination that’s both indulgent and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pasta fettuccine, linguine, or your favorite
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes oil-packed, drained and chopped
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese plus more for serving
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Optional: Red pepper flakes for a little heat

Instructions

  • Cook pasta: Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving about ½ cup of pasta water.
  • Season and cook chicken: Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season them with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • Sauté garlic and tomatoes: In the same skillet, add the chopped sun-dried tomatoes and minced garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Make the sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Add Parmesan and herbs: Stir in the Parmesan cheese, fresh basil, and fresh parsley. Add red pepper flakes, if using. Continue stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce. Add a little of the reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
  • Add chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and stir to combine.
  • Serve: Serve the Marry Me Chicken Pasta hot, topped with extra Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • Sun-dried Tomatoes: Oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes are recommended for this recipe. Make sure to drain them well before chopping.
  • Heavy Cream: Heavy cream is what makes this sauce so rich and decadent. You can substitute half-and-half or milk for a lighter version, but the sauce won't be as creamy.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese if possible, as it melts better than pre-grated cheese.
  • Fresh Herbs: Fresh basil and parsley add a bright and fresh flavor to the dish.

About Sana Umer

I'm Sana Umer — the home cook behind every recipe on For Foodie Friends. I'm a Pakistani-American mom of two based in the US, and I've been cooking seriously for about a decade now, mostly because feeding a family every day is the fastest way to learn how to actually cook.

I'm completely self-taught. I learned by watching my mother in Pakistan, by burning a lot of food in my early years, and by paying attention to which recipes worked and which ones needed fixing. I don't specialize in just one cuisine — I cook the Pakistani dishes I grew up with, the American desserts my kids request, weeknight dinners, holiday roasts, and everything in between.

Every recipe is personally tested in my own kitchen, every word is written by me, and every photo is taken of food I actually made.

Hi, I'm Sana Umer — the home cook, recipe tester, and writer behind For Foodie Friends.

I'm a Pakistani-American mom based in the US. I learned to cook in two kitchens — my mother's in Pakistan, where I grew up watching whole spices bloom in oil, and my own kitchen now, where I cook for my husband and kids.

Every recipe on this site has been tested in my own kitchen, often more times than I'd like to admit, before it ever made it here. I cook a little bit of everything: the Pakistani comfort food I grew up with, the American desserts my kids beg for, weeknight dinners that need to come together fast, and the holiday spreads that take all day.

If a recipe is on this site, it earned its place. No ghostwriters, no AI shortcuts, no copy-paste from somewhere else — just real recipes from a real kitchen, written to actually work the first time you make them.

Welcome to my corner of the internet.

— Sana
