Hi, I'm Sana — welcome to my kitchen.
I'm a Pakistani-American home cook based in the US. I grew up in Pakistan watching my mother cook every meal from scratch — onions browning slowly in oil, whole spices blooming in heat, a pressure cooker hissing in the background — and somewhere along the way, I picked it all up. When I got married and moved to my own kitchen, I realized how little of it I could actually do on my own. My first attempts were burnt, salty, or both. My mother made it look effortless. Mine wasn't.
A decade and two kids later, I cook everything. The Pakistani dishes I grew up with — biryani, karahi, daal — but also the American weeknight dinners my family settled into, the slow-cooked weekend projects worth the time, the desserts my kids Saad and Zainab specifically request, and the in-between recipes that don't fit neatly into any one cuisine. I learned the way most home cooks do: by failing, fixing, and paying attention to what actually worked.
## What you'll find here
For Foodie Friends is a mix of both worlds — the Pakistani comfort food I refuse to stop making and the American classics my family asks for. You'll find:
- **Weeknight dinners** — 30-minute meals tested in real life
- **Pakistani comfort food** — recipes I grew up with, adapted for American ingredients
- **Weekend slow-cooked projects** — birria, brisket, big pots of soup
- **American desserts** — what my kids have requested over the years
- **Family-friendly meals** — for kids and adults at the same table
## How I work
Every recipe on this site is tested in my own kitchen. Every word is written by me. Every photo is taken of food I actually made. No ghostwriters, no AI shortcuts, no copy-pasted content from somewhere else.
If a recipe is here, it earned its place. I don't publish anything I haven't made at least three times. I rewrite recipes that don't work. I update older posts when I learn a better way.
## Why I started For Foodie Friends
I started this site because I kept hitting the same problem when I was learning to cook: recipes that didn't quite work. Vague measurements. Missing details. Steps that assumed I already knew what I was doing. I started writing down my own versions with everything spelled out — the why behind each step, the specific timing, the small details that made a difference.
For Foodie Friends is where those recipes live now. It's written for the home cook in mind — someone making dinner for their family on a Tuesday night, or planning a holiday spread, or trying their first real Pakistani recipe. The instructions are detailed because I remember what it was like to not know.
## Get in touch
If you make a recipe and have questions — or if something didn't work the way it was supposed to — I want to hear about it. The fastest way to reach me is by commenting on the recipe itself. I read everything.
