  • Family-Friendly: The natural sweetness and spices make it a treat everyone will enjoy, young and old alike.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups fresh cranberries
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 packet pectin (optional, for thicker jam)

DIRECTIONS

  • Step No.1: Prepare the fruit
Wash the cranberries and chop the apples into small pieces. Combine them in a large pot with water.

  • Step No.2: Cook the fruit
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Step No.3: Add the spices
Stir in cinnamon, ginger benefits, and cloves. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes to allow the spices to blend into the fruit.

  • Step No.4: Add sugar and lemon juice
Stir in sugar and lemon juice. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, or until the jam thickens.

  • Step No.5: Optional pectin
If you want a thicker jam, add pectin according to the instructions on the packet. Stir well.

  • Step No.6: Can and store
Pour the hot jam into sterilised jars, leaving about ¼ inch of space at the top. Seal and let cool completely.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Use Fresh Cranberries: Fresh cranberries provide a firmer texture and better flavour than frozen ones.

  • Adjust the Sweetness: Taste the jam before adding all the sugar, depending on the tartness of your cranberries and apples.

  • Sterilise Jars Properly: Ensure your jars are fully sterilised to avoid contamination.

  • Check Consistency: If the jam isn't thick enough, cook it a little longer to achieve the desired consistency.

  • No Pectin Option: You can skip pectin for a more natural jam that may take longer to set.

  • Seal Jars Well: For longer storage, ensure your jars are sealed tightly to avoid spoilage.

  • Double Batch: Make more and store some for later use or gifting. The mixture keeps well in the fridge for several weeks.

VARIATIONS

  • Add Orange Zest: Add zest from one orange for a citrusy twist to your Christmas Jam.

  • Use Pears: Replace apples with pears for a different flavour base.

  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of ground nutmeg or allspice for an extra layer of flavour.

  • Less Sweet: Reduce sugar if you prefer a more tart, less sweet jam.

  • Cranberry-Orange Jam: Mix cranberries and fresh orange juice for a vibrant, zesty version.

  • Sugar-Free Version: Use a sugar substitute if you're looking for a low-sugar alternative.

  • Raspberry Twist: Combine cranberries with raspberries for a sweeter, more fruity variation.

About Sana Umer

I'm Sana Umer — the home cook behind every recipe on For Foodie Friends. I'm a Pakistani-American mom of two based in the US, and I've been cooking seriously for about a decade now, mostly because feeding a family every day is the fastest way to learn how to actually cook.

I'm completely self-taught. I learned by watching my mother in Pakistan, by burning a lot of food in my early years, and by paying attention to which recipes worked and which ones needed fixing. I don't specialize in just one cuisine — I cook the Pakistani dishes I grew up with, the American desserts my kids request, weeknight dinners, holiday roasts, and everything in between.

Every recipe is personally tested in my own kitchen, every word is written by me, and every photo is taken of food I actually made.

Hi, I'm Sana Umer — the home cook, recipe tester, and writer behind For Foodie Friends.

I'm a Pakistani-American mom based in the US. I learned to cook in two kitchens — my mother's in Pakistan, where I grew up watching whole spices bloom in oil, and my own kitchen now, where I cook for my husband and kids.

Every recipe on this site has been tested in my own kitchen, often more times than I'd like to admit, before it ever made it here. I cook a little bit of everything: the Pakistani comfort food I grew up with, the American desserts my kids beg for, weeknight dinners that need to come together fast, and the holiday spreads that take all day.

If a recipe is on this site, it earned its place. No ghostwriters, no AI shortcuts, no copy-paste from somewhere else — just real recipes from a real kitchen, written to actually work the first time you make them.

Welcome to my corner of the internet.

— Sana
