My air fryer has genuinely changed how I snack at home — what used to mean turning on the deep fryer or accepting greasy oven results now happens in 12 minutes with a fraction of the oil. These 23 best air fryer snacks are recipes I have actually made in my own air fryer over the past two years, and every one delivers the crispy texture that makes a snack feel properly indulgent without the heavy fried-food aftermath.

The variety here covers every snack craving I have. There are crispy seafood snacks like coconut shrimp, BBQ shrimp, and popcorn shrimp. There are cheesy bites like halloumi cheese sticks, halloumi panko bites, and breaded paneer. There are classic comfort snacks made lighter — soft pretzels, garlic knots, garlic bread, naan pizza, loaded potato skins. There are vegetable snacks done genuinely well — zucchini chips, zucchini Parmesan fries, green bean fries, fried pickles, pickle spears, shishito peppers. There are protein-packed options including beef jerky, roasted peanuts, and high-protein granola. And there are even sweet finishes — Nutella stuffed beignets and caramelised air fryer peaches. Save this collection and pull it up the next time the snack craving hits.

BEST AIR FRYER SNACKS FOR ANY OCCASION

23. Air Fryer BBQ Shrimp

air fryer BBQ shrimp glazed barbecue sauce smoky sweet quick weeknight appetizer party game day finger food

Large shrimp brushed with a smoky-sweet BBQ glaze and air fried until just cooked through and lightly caramelised — a 10-minute appetiser that uses a fraction of the oil of a pan-seared version. Made the list because BBQ shrimp is the recipe I make most often when guests turn up unexpectedly. The trick that matters: do not overcook the shrimp. Shrimp turn rubbery the moment they pass 145°F internal — they should curl into a loose "C" shape, not a tight "O" which means they are overcooked. Toss in BBQ sauce only after cooking, never before, or the sugars in the sauce burn before the shrimp finishes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅓ cup BBQ sauce (added after cooking)
  • Lemon wedges, fresh parsley for serving

Instructions:

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Pat shrimp very dry with paper towels — moisture prevents proper browning.
  2. Toss shrimp with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Arrange shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket (do not crowd). Air fry for 6–7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until the shrimp are just opaque and curled into a loose "C".
  4. Toss the hot shrimp with BBQ sauce until evenly glazed. Top with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

22. Air Fryer Coconut Shrimp

air fryer coconut shrimp crispy panko shredded coconut tropical golden appetizer dipping sauce sweet chili crispy

Large shrimp coated in a crispy mixture of shredded coconut and panko, air fried until deeply golden — a tropical-style appetiser that delivers all the texture of deep-fried coconut shrimp with a fraction of the oil. Made the list because the air fryer version is genuinely better than the deep-fried original — the coating crisps evenly without absorbing oil, so it stays crunchy rather than going soggy. Use unsweetened shredded coconut, not the sweetened baking variety which burns at air fryer temperatures. Press the coating firmly onto each shrimp and let them rest for 5 minutes before air frying — this helps the coating adhere properly.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ¾ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray
  • Sweet chili sauce or mango salsa for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Set up three shallow bowls: flour with garlic powder and salt; beaten eggs; coconut mixed with panko.
  2. Pat each shrimp dry. Dredge in flour, dip in egg, then press firmly into the coconut-panko mixture to coat completely. Rest on a plate for 5 minutes.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F. Spray coated shrimp lightly with cooking spray on both sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping halfway, until the coating is deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with sweet chili sauce.

21. Air Fryer Naan Pizza

air fryer naan pizza crispy bread base melted cheese pepperoni quick lunch dinner customizable kid-friendly snack

Store-bought naan bread used as a quick pizza base, topped with sauce, cheese, and toppings of choice, and air fried until the cheese melts and the naan crisps at the edges — a 10-minute snack that genuinely beats most frozen pizzas. Made the list because naan pizza is the recipe my kids request most often after school. The trick that matters: brush the underside of the naan with a thin layer of olive oil before adding toppings — this single step prevents the bread from going soggy under the sauce and produces a properly crispy bottom. Use less sauce than you think; a thin layer is enough.

Ingredients:

  • 2 small naan breads
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing the underside)
  • ⅓ cup pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella, shredded
  • Toppings of choice: pepperoni, sliced bell pepper, sliced mushrooms, red onion, olives
  • Italian seasoning, fresh basil, red pepper flakes for serving

Instructions:

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Brush the underside of each naan with a thin layer of olive oil.
  2. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the top of each naan, leaving a small border. Top with mozzarella and your chosen toppings.
  3. Place one naan pizza at a time in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 6–7 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and lightly browned and the edges of the naan are golden and crisp.
  4. Top with fresh basil, a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if desired. Slice and serve immediately.

20. Air Fryer Roasted Peanuts

air fryer roasted peanuts crunchy seasoned salty bar snack movie night protein-packed homemade simple

Raw peanuts seasoned and roasted in the air fryer until deeply crunchy and golden — a snack that takes 12 minutes and produces results genuinely better than any pre-roasted peanuts from the store. Made the list because air fryer roasted peanuts are the simplest snack with the highest reward in this collection — and homemade roasted peanuts taste considerably fresher than anything from a jar. Use raw, blanched peanuts (not pre-salted or honey-roasted), and shake the basket every 3 minutes to ensure even roasting. Toss with seasoning while they are still hot from the air fryer — the residual oil helps the seasoning adhere.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw blanched peanuts
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon smoked paprika or chili powder, or 1 teaspoon honey for honey-roasted

Instructions:

  1. Toss raw peanuts with olive oil to lightly coat.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 320°F. Spread peanuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  3. Air fry for 12 minutes, shaking the basket every 3 minutes for even browning.
  4. Transfer hot peanuts to a bowl. Immediately toss with salt and optional seasonings while still hot — the residual oil helps the seasoning stick. Cool completely before storing in an airtight jar (peanuts continue crisping as they cool).

19. Nutella Stuffed Beignets in Air Fryer

Nutella stuffed beignets air fryer crispy exterior gooey chocolate hazelnut center powdered sugar dessert sweet

Pillowy beignet dough wrapped around a centre of frozen Nutella and air fried until the exterior is golden and the inside is molten — a New Orleans-style dessert that comes together at home without a pot of hot oil. Made the list because Nutella beignets are the dessert that consistently impresses guests at brunch — every time I serve them, someone asks for the recipe. The trick that matters most: freeze the Nutella into small balls before stuffing the dough. Cold Nutella holds its shape during stuffing and produces a clean, contained molten centre after air frying — soft Nutella leaks out and burns onto the basket.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (about 8 biscuits) — or homemade beignet dough
  • 8 frozen teaspoons of Nutella (drop teaspoons onto a parchment-lined plate and freeze for 30 minutes)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar for dusting
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Drop teaspoons of Nutella onto a parchment-lined plate and freeze for at least 30 minutes until firm.
  2. Flatten each biscuit into a 3-inch round. Place a frozen Nutella ball in the centre. Pull the dough up around it and pinch firmly to seal completely. Roll into a smooth ball with the seam down.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 330°F. Spray basket with cooking spray. Place beignets seam-side down with space between each.
  4. Air fry for 6–7 minutes until deeply golden. Brush with melted butter and dust generously with powdered sugar through a fine sieve. Serve immediately while the centre is molten.

18. Air Fryer Soft Pretzels

air fryer soft pretzels golden brown coarse salt twisted shape mall-style mustard cheese dip homemade snack

Soft, twisted pretzels brushed with butter and topped with coarse salt, air fried to a deep golden brown — a homemade version of mall-style soft pretzels without needing a deep fryer or boiling step. Made the list because soft pretzels were the recipe that genuinely surprised me with how well the air fryer worked. The single non-negotiable step: do the brief baking soda bath before air frying. The 30-second dip in baking soda water creates the alkaline surface that gives soft pretzels their characteristic chewy crust and dark golden colour. Skip this step and you get a glorified bread roll, not a proper pretzel.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pre-made pizza dough (or homemade pretzel dough)
  • 4 cups warm water + ¼ cup baking soda (for the alkaline bath)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • Coarse pretzel salt or flaky sea salt
  • Yellow mustard, beer cheese, or warm cheese sauce for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Divide the dough into 6 portions. Roll each into a 20-inch rope. Form into the classic pretzel shape: make a U, twist the ends twice, and press them down onto the bottom of the U.
  2. Stir baking soda into warm water until dissolved. Dip each pretzel in the bath for 30 seconds, then lift out and place on a parchment-lined tray.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle generously with coarse salt.
  4. Air fry for 8–10 minutes until deeply golden brown. Brush with more melted butter while still hot. Serve immediately with mustard or cheese sauce.

17. Halloumi Cheese Sticks in the Air Fryer

halloumi cheese sticks air fryer breaded golden crispy exterior squeaky cheese center Mediterranean appetizer high-protein

Halloumi cheese cut into sticks, breaded in panko, and air fried until the exterior is golden and crispy while the inside stays squeaky and chewy — a Mediterranean-style appetiser that holds its shape better than mozzarella sticks. Made the list because halloumi sticks are the single most successful air fryer cheese recipe — halloumi has an unusually high melting point, which means it crisps on the outside without melting completely on the inside. Pat the halloumi extremely dry before breading; any surface moisture causes the breading to slough off during air frying. Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon and honey for a sweet-savoury contrast.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz halloumi cheese, cut into sticks (about 2 inches long, ½ inch thick)
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon paprika, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Honey, lemon wedges, fresh oregano for serving

Instructions:

  1. Pat halloumi sticks extremely dry with paper towels. This is critical for the breading to stick.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour with paprika and pepper; beaten eggs; panko. Dredge each halloumi stick first in flour, then egg, then press firmly into panko to coat.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F. Spray coated sticks with cooking spray on both sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 7–8 minutes, flipping halfway, until deeply golden. Drizzle with honey and serve immediately with lemon wedges and fresh oregano.

16. Air Fryer Beef Jerky

air fryer beef jerky homemade marinated soy sauce Worcestershire chewy high-protein road trip travel snack

Lean beef sliced thin, marinated in soy sauce and Worcestershire, and air fried at low temperature for an extended time until chewy and dried — homemade beef jerky at significantly lower cost than the store-bought version. Made the list because air fryer beef jerky is the recipe that has saved me money — quality jerky from the store costs serious money, but homemade is a fraction of the price. The single most important step: freeze the beef partially before slicing. 30 minutes in the freezer firms the meat enough to slice cleanly into the thin, even strips that produce proper jerky texture. Slice against the grain for tender jerky, with the grain for chewier.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs lean beef (top round or eye of round), partially frozen for 30 minutes for easier slicing
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon liquid smoke, ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Slice the partially frozen beef against the grain into ⅛-inch thick strips. Trim away any visible fat — fat goes rancid quickly and ruins jerky storage.
  2. Whisk all marinade ingredients together. Add the beef strips and toss to coat. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 180°F (or the lowest setting available). Lay strips in a single layer in the basket.
  4. Air fry for 2–3 hours, checking every 30 minutes, until the jerky is dry, dark, and chewy but bends without snapping. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks (or refrigerate for up to a month).

15. Air Fryer Zucchini Chips with Parmesan

air fryer zucchini chips Parmesan cheese low-calorie healthy alternative crispy crunchy savory snack low-carb

Zucchini sliced paper-thin, coated in finely grated Parmesan, and air fried until shatteringly crispy — a low-carb, low-calorie alternative to potato chips with a savoury cheesy hit. Made the list because zucchini chips are genuinely the most successful low-calorie crisp substitute I have made — they deliver the crunch that snack food cravings demand. The single most important step: slice the zucchini as thinly as possible (a mandoline is ideal at 1/16 inch). Thicker slices stay soft and damp in the centre, never reaching proper chip texture. Salt the slices and let them sit for 15 minutes to draw out moisture before air frying.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium zucchini, sliced paper-thin (1/16 inch on a mandoline if possible)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (for drawing out moisture)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ⅓ cup finely grated Parmesan
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Lay zucchini slices on paper towels, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 15 minutes to release moisture. Pat very dry with more paper towels.
  2. Toss with olive oil, then with Parmesan, garlic powder, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Arrange slices in a single layer (work in batches; do not overlap).
  4. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, checking at 6 minutes, until deeply golden and crisp at the edges. Cool on a wire rack — they continue crisping as they cool.

14. Air Fryer Fried Pickles

air fryer fried pickles dill chips breaded crispy exterior tangy bright bar snack ranch dipping sauce game day

Dill pickle chips coated in seasoned breadcrumbs and air fried until the exterior is crispy while the inside stays tangy and bright — bar-style fried pickles without the deep fryer mess. Made the list because air fryer fried pickles are genuinely the snack that converts skeptics — anyone who claims they don't like fried pickles tries an air fryer version and changes their mind. Pat the pickle chips obsessively dry before breading — pickle juice is the enemy of a crispy coating, and unless the pickles are completely dry the breading slides off during air frying. Serve with a creamy ranch or homemade chipotle mayo for dipping.

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar (24 oz) dill pickle chips, drained
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • Cooking spray, ranch dressing for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Spread pickle chips on paper towels and pat extremely dry — use additional paper towels until the surfaces are no longer wet.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour; beaten eggs; panko mixed with Parmesan, paprika, garlic powder, and dill. Coat each pickle in flour, then egg, then panko mixture.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spray coated pickles with cooking spray on both sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping halfway, until deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with ranch dressing.

13. Healthy Air Fryer Granola (High Protein)

healthy air fryer granola high protein oats nuts seeds breakfast yogurt bowl quick homemade make-ahead

A high-protein granola made with rolled oats, mixed nuts, seeds, and a touch of honey — air fried in 12 minutes for a homemade breakfast and snack option that beats any boxed cereal. Made the list because air fryer granola is the recipe that revolutionised my breakfasts — homemade granola in 12 minutes, tossed mid-cook, and the result is genuinely better than store-bought. The trick that matters: do not stir continuously. Granola needs to settle into clusters, and constant stirring breaks them apart. Stir only twice during cooking, and let the granola cool completely on a sheet pan to harden into proper clusters before storing.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • ½ cup almonds, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup pumpkin seeds, ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, pinch of salt
  • Optional after cooling: ⅓ cup dried cranberries or raisins

Instructions:

  1. Combine oats, almonds, pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk honey, melted coconut oil, and vanilla together. Pour over the dry mixture and toss until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 320°F. Line the basket with parchment if needed. Spread granola in an even layer.
  4. Air fry for 12 minutes, stirring only at the 4-minute and 8-minute marks. Tip out onto a sheet pan and cool completely (this is when clusters form). Stir in dried fruit. Store in an airtight jar for up to 3 weeks.

12. Air Fryer Garlic Knots

air fryer garlic knots golden fluffy butter herbs Italian-inspired pasta dinner side bread snack restaurant-style

Pizza dough rolled into ropes, tied into knots, and air fried until golden and fluffy — then brushed with garlic butter and fresh herbs for a restaurant-style side that comes together in 20 minutes. Made the list because garlic knots are the simplest possible way to elevate a weeknight pasta dinner. The trick that matters: brush with garlic butter immediately after they come out of the air fryer, while still hot. The hot dough absorbs the butter into the surface rather than sitting on top, producing a deeply garlicky finish rather than a slick exterior. Use real butter, not olive oil — the milk solids in butter brown the surface and add depth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pre-made pizza dough
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Divide dough into 12 portions. Roll each into a 6-inch rope. Tie each rope into a simple knot, tucking the ends under.
  2. Combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Brush each knot with a small amount of the garlic butter. Air fry in batches for 7–8 minutes until deeply golden.
  4. Brush the hot knots generously with the remaining garlic butter and toss with grated Parmesan. Serve immediately.

11. Easy Crispy Breaded Air Fryer Paneer

air fryer paneer breaded golden crispy exterior soft Indian cottage cheese vegetarian high-protein appetizer snack

Paneer cubes coated in seasoned breadcrumbs and air fried until the exterior is golden and crunchy and the centre stays soft and milky — a high-protein vegetarian snack that genuinely satisfies. Made the list because crispy breaded paneer is the air fryer recipe that vegetarian guests have asked for repeatedly. The single most important step: pat the paneer extremely dry with paper towels before breading. Paneer holds significant surface moisture, and unless it is patted thoroughly dry the breading slides off during cooking. Press the breadcrumbs firmly onto each cube and let them rest for 5 minutes before air frying — this lets the coating set and adhere properly.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz paneer, cut into 1-inch cubes and patted dry
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala, ½ teaspoon turmeric, ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray, mint chutney or tamarind chutney for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Pat paneer cubes extremely dry with paper towels. Set up three bowls: flour with garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and pepper; beaten eggs; panko.
  2. Coat each paneer cube in flour, then egg, then press firmly into panko. Rest on a plate for 5 minutes for the coating to set.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F. Spray coated paneer with cooking spray on all sides.
  4. Air fry for 7–8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with mint or tamarind chutney.

10. Air Fryer Halloumi Bites with Panko Breadcrumbs

Halloumi cubes coated in panko breadcrumbs and air fried until the outside is shatteringly crispy and the inside stays squeaky and warm — a smaller, more poppable version of the halloumi sticks at #17. Made the list as a separate entry because the cube format is significantly better for sharing — easier to spear with a cocktail pick at a party, easier to scatter over a salad, and the breadcrumb-to-cheese ratio is more balanced. Cube the halloumi to roughly equal sizes (about 1 inch) so they cook evenly. Serve with sweet chili sauce, harissa mayo, or honey for a contrast that genuinely elevates the bite.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz halloumi cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano, ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray, sweet chili sauce or harissa mayo for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Pat halloumi cubes very dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour; beaten eggs; panko mixed with oregano, paprika, and pepper. Coat each cube in flour, then egg, then press firmly into the seasoned panko.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F. Spray bites with cooking spray on all sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until deeply golden. Serve immediately with sweet chili or harissa mayo.

9. Air Fryer Shishito Peppers

air fryer shishito peppers blistered charred sea salt lemon Japanese-inspired tapas-style appetizer mild Spanish padrón

Shishito peppers tossed lightly in oil and air fried until blistered and slightly charred — a 7-minute, restaurant-style appetiser served with flaky sea salt and a squeeze of lemon. Made the list because shishito peppers are the simplest way to have a tapas-style snack at home — and the air fryer does the blistering job that previously required a screaming-hot cast iron pan. The fun part of shishitos is that roughly one in ten is genuinely spicy — the rest are mild — so eating them is a small game of pepper roulette. Pat the peppers dry before tossing in oil for the best blistering, and finish with a generous flake of sea salt and lemon while still hot.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz shishito peppers
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Flaky sea salt
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • Optional: soy sauce, sesame oil, or yuzu kosho for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Wash and pat the shishito peppers thoroughly dry. Toss with olive oil to lightly coat.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Add peppers to the basket in a single layer.
  3. Air fry for 6–7 minutes, shaking the basket every 2 minutes, until the peppers are blistered, lightly charred, and the skins look puffy.
  4. Transfer to a serving plate. Sprinkle generously with flaky sea salt and squeeze fresh lemon over the top while still hot. Serve immediately with extra lemon wedges.

8. Air Fryer Loaded Potato Skins

air fryer loaded potato skins crispy bacon cheddar green onions sour cream sports bar appetizer game day shareable

Russet potato skins crisped in the air fryer until shatteringly golden, then loaded with sharp cheddar, crispy bacon, green onions, and a dollop of sour cream — a sports-bar appetiser that comes together in 30 minutes including the initial bake. Made the list because air fryer loaded potato skins are the appetiser I make whenever I have potatoes in the pantry and a few guests dropping by. The trick that genuinely matters: brush the inside of each potato skin with melted butter or olive oil before crisping. The fat allows the skin to develop the deeply browned, crunchy interior surface that contrasts beautifully with the soft toppings.

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium russet potatoes, baked or microwaved until tender
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon paprika, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1.5 cups sharp cheddar, shredded
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • Sour cream and fresh chives for serving

Instructions:

  1. Cut cooked potatoes in half lengthwise. Scoop out most of the flesh, leaving a ¼-inch border attached to the skin. Save the flesh for mashed potatoes another night.
  2. Brush the inside and outside of each skin with melted butter. Sprinkle with salt, paprika, and pepper.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Place skins cut-side down first and air fry for 4 minutes. Flip and air fry 4 minutes more, until shatteringly crisp.
  4. Fill each skin with cheddar and crumbled bacon. Return to the air fryer at 375°F for 2 minutes until the cheese melts. Top with green onions, a dollop of sour cream, and fresh chives. Serve hot.

7. Crispy Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp

air fryer popcorn shrimp small breaded golden crispy bite-sized appetizer cocktail sauce dipping kid-friendly snack

Bite-sized small shrimp coated in a seasoned breading and air fried until crispy and golden — a poppable, kid-friendly seafood snack made with a fraction of the oil of the deep-fried takeaway version. Made the list because popcorn shrimp is the recipe that has converted my children from "I don't like seafood" to actively requesting it for dinner — small, breaded, and dippable is genuinely the gateway to broader seafood appreciation. Use small or extra-small shrimp (51/60 count) for the most authentic popcorn shrimp experience — larger shrimp cook unevenly when breaded to this size and the breading-to-shrimp ratio gets thrown off.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb small shrimp (51/60 count), peeled, deveined, and tails removed
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup regular breadcrumbs (for finer texture)
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray
  • Cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or remoulade for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Pat shrimp very dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour with Old Bay, garlic powder, paprika, and salt; beaten eggs; combined panko and regular breadcrumbs. Coat each shrimp in flour, dip in egg, then press into breadcrumbs.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spray basket with cooking spray. Arrange shrimp in a single layer (work in batches; do not crowd). Spray the tops with more cooking spray.
  4. Air fry for 6–7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce.

6. Air Fryer Pickle Spears

air fryer pickle spears whole breaded crispy tangy bar snack ranch chipotle dipping sauce game day appetizer

Whole pickle spears (rather than chips) breaded and air fried until the exterior is crispy while the inside stays tangy and crunchy — a heartier, more substantial version of fried pickles than the chip version at #14. Made the list as a separate entry because the spear format produces a genuinely different snacking experience — these are large enough to be a proper appetiser, easier to dip, and the surface area-to-volume ratio means more crunchy breading per pickle. Use proper full-sour or kosher dill spears (not the sweet variety), and pat them obsessively dry before breading. The bigger the surface area being dried, the more critical this step becomes.

Ingredients:

  • 12 dill pickle spears, drained well
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten with 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1.5 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon dried dill, ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray, ranch dressing or chipotle mayo for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Lay pickle spears on layers of paper towels and pat extremely dry — replace the towels with fresh ones if needed and continue patting for 5 minutes total.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour; egg-hot sauce mixture; panko mixed with Parmesan, paprika, garlic powder, dill, and pepper. Coat each spear in flour, then egg, then press firmly into the seasoned panko on all sides.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spray spears with cooking spray on all sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer with space between each. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until deeply golden. Serve immediately with ranch or chipotle mayo.

5. Vegan Air Fryer Gnocchi

vegan air fryer gnocchi crispy golden plant-based pillowy interior Italian-inspired snack side dish dairy-free

Shelf-stable potato gnocchi tossed in olive oil and herbs and air fried until the outside is shatteringly crispy and the inside stays soft and pillowy — a vegan-friendly snack that genuinely transforms a humble pantry ingredient into something exciting. Made the list because air fryer gnocchi has become my favourite "I have nothing in the house" snack — vacuum-packed gnocchi sits in the pantry indefinitely and converts into a satisfying snack in 12 minutes flat. Use shelf-stable gnocchi (not refrigerated or frozen) — the dryer texture browns beautifully in the air fryer, while refrigerated gnocchi releases too much moisture and stays gummy. Skip the boiling step entirely.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb shelf-stable potato gnocchi (do not boil)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (for vegan "Parmesan" flavour) or grated Parmesan if not strictly vegan
  • Fresh parsley, marinara or vegan pesto for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Toss gnocchi with olive oil, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Add gnocchi to the basket in a single layer.
  3. Air fry for 12 minutes, shaking the basket every 4 minutes, until deeply golden and crispy on the outside. They will be soft and pillowy inside.
  4. Toss the hot gnocchi immediately with nutritional yeast and fresh parsley. Serve with marinara or vegan pesto for dipping.

4. Air Fryer Parmesan Zucchini Fries

air fryer Parmesan zucchini fries breaded crispy low-carb healthy alternative kid-friendly side snack vegetarian

Zucchini cut into fry shapes, coated in Parmesan and panko, and air fried until shatteringly crispy on the outside while staying soft and tender inside — a low-calorie alternative to potato fries that genuinely satisfies the fry craving. Made the list because Parmesan zucchini fries are the recipe that has saved many family weeknights. The trick that matters most: salt the zucchini fries for 15 minutes before breading, then pat dry. This draws out excess moisture and prevents the fries from steaming inside the breading and turning soggy. Cut the fries to a uniform size — 3 inches long, ½ inch thick — for even cooking.

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium zucchini, cut into fry-shaped strips (3 inches long, ½ inch thick)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for drawing out moisture)
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup finely grated Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray, marinara or garlic aioli for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Lay zucchini fries on paper towels, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 15 minutes. Pat very dry.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour; beaten eggs; panko mixed with Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and pepper. Coat each fry in flour, then egg, then press into the breadcrumb mixture.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Spray fries with cooking spray on all sides.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the basket (work in batches). Air fry for 9–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with marinara or garlic aioli.

3. Air Fryer Green Bean Fries

Fresh green beans coated in a light panko breading and air fried until the exterior is golden and crispy while the inside stays bright green and just-tender — a nutrient-dense alternative to traditional fries that holds together beautifully for dipping. Made the list at number three because green bean fries are the surprisingly successful recipe that converted me to the air fryer years ago. The trick: use fresh green beans only, never frozen. Frozen beans release too much moisture during cooking and the breading slides off. Trim the ends and pat extremely dry before breading. The thinner Haricot Vert (French green beans) also work beautifully and produce a slightly more delicate fry.

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz fresh green beans, trimmed and patted very dry
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Sriracha mayo, ranch, or garlic aioli for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Trim the green beans and pat them very dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour; beaten eggs; panko mixed with Parmesan, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Working in small batches of 5–6 beans, dredge in flour, dip in egg, then roll in the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Arrange in a single layer (avoid overlapping). Spray with cooking spray on all sides.
  4. Air fry for 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until deeply golden and crispy. Serve immediately with sriracha mayo or ranch.

2. Air Fryer Garlic Bread

Slices of bread spread generously with garlic butter and air fried until the surface is golden and crispy while the inside stays soft and warm — a 6-minute side that genuinely outperforms the oven version. Made the list at number two because air fryer garlic bread is the snack I make most often. The trick that matters: use real butter (not margarine or oil), and grate the garlic with a Microplane rather than mince it. Microplaned garlic spreads evenly across the bread surface and produces a more consistent garlic flavour in every bite, while minced garlic creates concentrated hot spots that can taste raw or slightly bitter.

Ingredients:

  • 8 thick slices of crusty bread (Italian, French, or sourdough)
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely grated on a Microplane
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with grated garlic, parsley, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using until completely smooth.
  2. Spread the garlic butter generously over one side of each slice of bread, all the way to the edges.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Place bread butter-side up in a single layer in the basket.
  4. Air fry for 5–6 minutes until the tops are deeply golden and the butter has melted into the bread. Serve immediately while hot.

1. Air Fryer Peaches

air fryer peaches caramelized juicy summer dessert vegan ice cream topping cinnamon honey simple healthy fruit

Fresh peaches halved, brushed lightly with butter and a touch of brown sugar, and air fried until the cut surfaces caramelise and the fruit becomes meltingly tender — a 12-minute summer dessert that tastes considerably more elaborate than its prep time. This earns the top spot because air fryer peaches are the recipe that genuinely surprised me with how good they are — and they have become my favourite summer dessert. Use peaches that are ripe but still slightly firm — overly soft peaches turn to mush in the air fryer, while underripe ones never properly caramelise. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped Greek yogurt elevates this from a snack to a proper dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe-but-firm peaches, halved and pitted
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vanilla ice cream, whipped Greek yogurt, fresh mint, honey for serving

Instructions:

  1. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla together in a small bowl.
  2. Brush the cut surface of each peach half generously with the butter-sugar mixture.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F. Place peaches cut-side up in the basket in a single layer.
  4. Air fry for 8–10 minutes until the peaches are tender and the cut surfaces are deeply caramelised. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of honey, and fresh mint leaves.

About Sana Umer

I'm Sana Umer — the home cook behind every recipe on For Foodie Friends. I'm a Pakistani-American mom of two based in the US, and I've been cooking seriously for about a decade now, mostly because feeding a family every day is the fastest way to learn how to actually cook.

I'm completely self-taught. I learned by watching my mother in Pakistan, by burning a lot of food in my early years, and by paying attention to which recipes worked and which ones needed fixing. I don't specialize in just one cuisine — I cook the Pakistani dishes I grew up with, the American desserts my kids request, weeknight dinners, holiday roasts, and everything in between.

Every recipe is personally tested in my own kitchen, every word is written by me, and every photo is taken of food I actually made.

Hi, I'm Sana Umer — the home cook, recipe tester, and writer behind For Foodie Friends.

I'm a Pakistani-American mom based in the US. I learned to cook in two kitchens — my mother's in Pakistan, where I grew up watching whole spices bloom in oil, and my own kitchen now, where I cook for my husband and kids.

Every recipe on this site has been tested in my own kitchen, often more times than I'd like to admit, before it ever made it here. I cook a little bit of everything: the Pakistani comfort food I grew up with, the American desserts my kids beg for, weeknight dinners that need to come together fast, and the holiday spreads that take all day.

If a recipe is on this site, it earned its place. No ghostwriters, no AI shortcuts, no copy-paste from somewhere else — just real recipes from a real kitchen, written to actually work the first time you make them.

Welcome to my corner of the internet.

— Sana
