Editorial Principles & Recipe Testing

# Editorial Principles & Recipe Testing

At For Foodie Friends, every recipe you read on this site has gone through a real testing process in a real home kitchen — mine. This page explains how I develop, test, write, and publish content so you know exactly what to expect when you make one of my recipes.

## Who Writes Content on This Site

Every word published on forfoodiefriends.com is written by me, Sana Umer. I am the sole author, recipe developer, photographer, and editor for this site. I do not use ghostwriters, content mills, or AI-generated text passed off as my own work. The voice you read here is mine.

You can learn more about my background on my [About page](https://forfoodiefriends.com/sana-umer/).

## How Recipes Are Developed

Every recipe on this site originates from one of three places:

1. **Family recipes** I grew up with or have cooked for my family over the years, especially traditional Pakistani and South Asian dishes.
2. **Recipes I've adapted** from various sources — cookbooks, family members, my own experiments — and refined through repeated testing in my own kitchen.
3. **Original recipes** I've developed through trial and error to address gaps I've noticed in online recipe libraries.

When a recipe is adapted from another source, I add my own changes based on what actually works in a home kitchen. When a recipe is traditional or has a clear cultural origin, I credit that origin in the recipe introduction.

## How Recipes Are Tested

Every recipe published on For Foodie Friends has been:

- **Cooked in my own home kitchen** in Pakistan, using equipment and ingredients that are widely available to home cooks
- **Tested multiple times** before publication, often 3 or more times, to ensure consistency
- **Tasted by my family**, who are honest about what works and what doesn't
- **Photographed by me** in my kitchen, of the actual finished dish — not stock photos and not AI-generated images

If a recipe doesn't work for me after several attempts, it doesn't get published.

## How Recipes Are Written

Once a recipe passes testing, I write it the way I'd explain it to a friend who's making it for the first time. That means:

- **Specific measurements**, not vague terms like "a handful" or "to taste" (except where appropriate)
- **Clear technique notes**, including the small steps most recipes skip — why to rest the meat, when to lower the heat, how to tell when something is done
- **Honest difficulty levels** — I won't call something a "30-minute meal" if it actually takes 45
- **Real substitutions** where I've tested them and confirmed they work, not theoretical swaps

## How I Use Sources

When I reference techniques, traditions, or facts that aren't from my own experience, I learn from cookbooks, established culinary references, conversations with family, and other home cooks. I do not present information as my own when it isn't.

## How I Handle AI

I use AI tools occasionally for grammar checking and formatting assistance, but every recipe, every personal anecdote, every tip, and every published word is written and approved by me. No AI-generated recipes are passed off as my own.

## My Promise to Readers

1. Every recipe on this site has been tested in my kitchen
2. Every word is reviewed and approved by me
3. Every photo is of food I actually cooked
4. I update recipes when readers help me improve them
5. I respond to comments and corrections personally

If a recipe doesn't work for you, please tell me — leave a comment or send a message through the [contact page](https://forfoodiefriends.com/contact-us/). I read every message and use reader feedback to make the site better.

Hi, I'm Sana Umer — the home cook, recipe tester, and writer behind For Foodie Friends.

I'm a Pakistani-American mom based in the US. I learned to cook in two kitchens — my mother's in Pakistan, where I grew up watching whole spices bloom in oil, and my own kitchen now, where I cook for my husband and kids.

Every recipe on this site has been tested in my own kitchen, often more times than I'd like to admit, before it ever made it here. I cook a little bit of everything: the Pakistani comfort food I grew up with, the American desserts my kids beg for, weeknight dinners that need to come together fast, and the holiday spreads that take all day.

If a recipe is on this site, it earned its place. No ghostwriters, no AI shortcuts, no copy-paste from somewhere else — just real recipes from a real kitchen, written to actually work the first time you make them.

Welcome to my corner of the internet.

— Sana
