Ingredients

For the Biscuit Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Biscuit Crust:

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until it comes together.
  • Roll out the dough into a circle or rectangle about ¼-inch thick. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

  • In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the flour to the skillet and whisk for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens into a gravy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and mix well.

Assemble the Breakfast Pizza:

  • Spread the sausage gravy evenly over the pre-baked biscuit crust.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the gravy.
  • Crack the eggs evenly spaced over the pizza.
  • Bake in the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve:

  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Crust Alternatives: For convenience, you can use store-bought biscuit dough or a pre-made pizza crust.
  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to use other cheeses like pepper jack, Monterey Jack, or gouda for different flavors.
  • Vegetable Additions: You can add toppings like sautéed bell peppers, onions, or spinach for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Make-Ahead: The sausage gravy can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Assemble the pizza just before baking.
  • Leftovers: Store any leftover breakfast pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
