Ingredients

  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 4 beef or pork hot dogs
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon bourbon
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce your choice
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Wrap each hot dog with a slice of bacon, securing the ends with toothpicks if needed.
  • Place the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the hot dogs are heated through.
  • While the hot dogs are baking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until soft and golden.
  • Add the bourbon to the onions and let it cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes until the onions are caramelized and the glaze has thickened.
  • Once the hot dogs are done, remove them from the oven and place them in the buns.
  • Drizzle with BBQ sauce, top with the bourbon-glazed onions, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy these flavorful Winter BBQ Bacon Dogs!

Notes

  • You can use turkey bacon for a lighter version, though the flavor and crispiness will differ.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add some jalapeño slices or hot sauce to the bourbon-glazed onions.
  • For extra flavor, grill the hot dogs instead of baking them.
  • These hot dogs are great for a winter BBQ or a fun twist on traditional game day snacks.
  • Leftover bourbon-glazed onions can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and used as a topping for burgers or sandwiches.
  • For a more decadent version, you can add cheese to the hot dogs before wrapping them in bacon.
