Old Fashioned Raisin Pie is a nostalgic, sweet dessert filled with plump raisins, warm spices, and a thickened brown sugar syrup—all tucked inside a flaky pie crust. A classic treat, perfect for holidays or cozy gatherings.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out and place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
Cook the Raisins:
In a saucepan, simmer raisins and water over medium heat for 10 minutes until raisins are plump.
Make the Filling:
In a bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir the mixture into the raisin pot. Cook until thick, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and butter.
Assemble the Pie:
Pour the filling into the prepared crust. Top with second crust, seal edges, and cut slits in the top for steam.
Bake:
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until crust is golden. Let cool before slicing.
Notes
Add a splash of rum or vanilla for deeper flavor.
Best served warm or at room temperature, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
