Ingredients

  • 1 pound sirloin steak cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for heat
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional garnish: Chopped green onions or sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Season steak: Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels. Season them generously with salt and pepper.
  • Sear steak: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steak cubes to the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Sear for 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for your desired doneness. Don't overcook, as the steak will continue to cook a bit in the sauce. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  • Make honey garlic sauce: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes (if using). Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
  • Combine steak and sauce: Add the seared steak cubes back to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly with the honey garlic sauce.
  • Serve: Serve the Honey Garlic Steak Bites immediately, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

  • Steak: Sirloin steak is a good choice for this recipe, but you can use other tender cuts, such as ribeye or filet mignon.
  • Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Sauce Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, add a little water or chicken broth to thin it out.
  • Variations: You can add other vegetables to the skillet along with the steak, such as bell peppers or onions.
Variations:
  • Spicy Honey Garlic Steak Bites: Add more red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce.
  • Ginger Honey Garlic Steak Bites: Add grated fresh ginger to the sauce.
  • Teriyaki Steak Bites: Substitute teriyaki sauce for the soy sauce and honey mixture.
  • Pineapple Honey Garlic Steak Bites: Add pineapple chunks to the skillet along with the steak.
