Prepare Pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Cook Caramel: In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 245°F (soft-ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
Add Flavor: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
