Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 ¼ cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Wax paper or parchment for wrapping

Instructions
 

  • Prepare Pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Cook Caramel: In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 245°F (soft-ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
  • Add Flavor: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  • Pour into Pan: Pour caramel mixture into prepared pan, spreading evenly. Allow to cool at room temperature for 2–3 hours until firm.
  • Cut and Wrap: Lift caramel from pan using parchment, cut into squares, and wrap individually in wax paper.

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • Make Ahead: Caramels can be made a few days in advance and wrapped individually for gifting.
