Ingredients
  

For the Crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold, diced
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons ice water

For the Filling:

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples about 6 medium apples
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For Brushing:

  • Egg wash 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water, for brushing crust

Instructions
 

Prepare Crust:

  • Prepare crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water gradually and form dough. Chill for 30 minutes.

Roll Out Crust:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out half the dough and fit into a 9-inch pie pan.

Prepare Filling:

  • In a bowl, mix apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour filling into prepared crust.

Top Crust:

  • Roll out remaining dough for the top crust. Cover pie and crimp edges. Cut slits in top to vent. Brush with egg wash.

Bake:

  • Bake for 45–50 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbly. Cool before slicing and serving.
