Hidden Heart Chocolate Loaf Cake is a moist chocolate cake with a surprise pink heart in every slice. It’s sweet, tender, and perfect for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, or special celebrations.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the pink batter by mixing butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, and milk, then mix in flour, baking powder, salt, and food colouring. Bake in a small loaf pan for 25–30 minutes. Cool, then cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
Prepare the Chocolate Batter:
Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs, vanilla, and milk. Stir in flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt until smooth.
Assemble:
Pour a thin layer of chocolate batter into a greased loaf pan. Line up the pink hearts down the centre. Gently pour the remaining chocolate batter over the top.
Bake:
Bake for 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before slicing to reveal the hidden heart.
Notes
Tip: Freeze the heart shapes for 10 minutes before baking—they’ll hold shape better.
Variation: Use different colours or shapes for themed surprises.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
