Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes made from 6 medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking beef

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spatula. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Prepare the Gravy: Add butter to the skillet with the beef. Once melted, sprinkle in flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in beef broth and water, whisking to avoid lumps. Add brown gravy mix and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve: Spoon the beef and gravy mixture over the fluffy mashed potatoes. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the beef and gravy in advance and store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving over fresh mashed potatoes.
  • Customizing the Flavor: Add sautéed onions or mushrooms for extra flavor in the gravy. You can also use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a crisp salad for a complete meal.
  • Storage Tips: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
