Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and halved
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

Prepare the Mushrooms:

  • Clean and halve the mushrooms. Pat dry to remove excess moisture.

Sauté Garlic:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add garlic and sauté 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Cook Mushrooms:

  • Add mushrooms to the skillet. Cook 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms are tender and golden brown.

Add Seasoning:

  • Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and parsley. Toss to coat evenly.

Finish with Parmesan:

  • Remove from heat and sprinkle grated Parmesan over the mushrooms. Stir gently to combine.

Serve:

  • Serve warm as a side dish, appetizer, or topping for steak, chicken, or pasta.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Mushrooms are best served immediately but can be reheated gently in a skillet.
  • Flavor Boost: Add a splash of white wine or balsamic vinegar while cooking for extra depth.
  • Cheese Options: Try Parmesan, Pecorino Romano, or Asiago for a different flavor.
  • Spice Tip: Add crushed red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.
