Ingredients

  • 8 beef hot dogs
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust or extra crescent dough for stars
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Ketchup and mustard for serving

Instructions

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Wrap Hot Dogs:

  • Cut crescent dough into thin strips. Wrap each hot dog from bottom to just below the top, leaving room for the “firecracker” tip.

Insert Skewers:

  • Gently insert a wooden skewer through each hot dog from bottom to top.

Add Stars:

  • Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut stars from pie crust or extra dough. Place one star on the exposed top of each hot dog.

Brush with Egg Wash:

  • Brush dough and stars lightly with beaten egg to help them brown beautifully.

Bake:

  • Bake for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown and puffed. Let cool slightly.

Serve:

  • Serve warm with ketchup and mustard for dipping.

Notes

  • Cheesy Twist: Add a thin slice of cheese under the dough before wrapping.
  • Mini Version: Use cocktail franks for bite-sized party snacks.
  • Make Ahead: Wrap and refrigerate uncooked hot dogs up to 6 hours before baking.
  • Presentation Tip: Serve upright in a jar or cup filled with dry beans or rice for a firecracker display.
  • Safety Tip: If baking with wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20 minutes to prevent scorching.
