Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper soda
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans optional

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup Dr. Pepper soda

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.

Add Wet Ingredients:

  • In a saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and stir in Dr. Pepper, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla.

Combine:

  • Slowly add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in pecans if using.

Bake:

  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Prepare Frosting:

  • Beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add vanilla, powdered sugar, and Dr. Pepper soda, beating until creamy.

Frost Cake:

  • Spread frosting over cooled cake before serving.
