Ingredients

  • 5 –6 large croissants torn into chunks
  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
  • 1 8 oz block cream cheese, cubed
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Butter or oil for greasing the dish

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Dish

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer half the croissant pieces, then scatter half the cream cheese cubes and sliced strawberries. Repeat layers.

Step 2: Make the Custard

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, and vanilla. Pour evenly over the croissant mixture. Lightly press down to help it soak in.

Step 3: Chill or Bake

  • Cover and refrigerate overnight (recommended), or let sit for 15 minutes before baking.

Step 4: Bake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes or until golden and set. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Step 5: Serve

  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with extra maple syrup or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use day-old croissants for best texture.
  • Swap strawberries with blueberries or raspberries.
  • For a richer flavour, add a touch of almond extract.
