This Copycat McDonald’s Steak recipe recreates the nostalgic savoury steak sandwich with a juicy beef patty, soft hoagie bun, onions, and creamy steak sauce. It’s a comforting fast-food classic you can now enjoy at home.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ pound ground beef 80/20 preferred
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 hoagie rolls or steak sandwich buns
  • 2 slices American cheese
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce like A1 or similar

Instructions
 

Make the Patties:

  • Divide ground beef into two oval-shaped patties to fit the hoagie rolls. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Cook the Onions:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and golden, about 5–7 minutes. Set aside.

Cook the Patties:

  • In the same skillet, cook beef patties over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side or until fully cooked.

Assemble the Sandwich:

  • Place each patty on a hoagie roll. Top with onions, a slice of cheese, and drizzle with steak sauce.

Serve Warm:

  • Serve immediately with fries or your favourite sides.

  • Customise It: Add grilled mushrooms or use provolone for a gourmet twist.
