Ingredients

For the Oats:

  • ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats use certified gluten-free if needed
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ¾ cup milk of choice dairy, almond, oat, soy, etc.
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey adjust to sweetness preference
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar light or dark
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk of choice to create a paste

For the Cream Cheese Glaze (Optional, but highly recommended for authentic flavor):

  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese softened (dairy or dairy-free)
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar confectioners' sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk of choice to reach desired consistency
  • teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oats: In a jar or airtight container, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, ¾ cup milk, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, and salt. Stir very well to ensure everything is combined and there are no dry clumps.
  • Make the Cinnamon Swirl Mixture: In a tiny separate bowl, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Add 1-2 teaspoons of milk, starting with 1 teaspoon, and mix until you have a thick, spreadable paste.

Assemble the Swirl:

  • Pour about half of the oat mixture into the prepared jar/container.
  • Spoon half of the cinnamon swirl mixture on top of this layer. You can swirl it gently with a knife if desired.
  • Pour the remaining oat mixture over the cinnamon layer.
  • Top with the remaining cinnamon swirl mixture. You can create a swirl pattern on top.
  • Chill: Cover the jar/container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight (8+ hours), to allow the oats to soften and thicken.
  • Prepare Cream Cheese Glaze (Optional): Just before serving, in a small bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1-2 teaspoons of milk. Start with 1 teaspoon and add more gradually until you reach a smooth, drizzle-able consistency. Add vanilla extract if using.
  • Serve: The next morning, give the oats a gentle stir. If too thick, add a splash more milk. Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the top of your cinnamon roll overnight oats just before enjoying.

Notes

  • Consistency: Adjust the amount of milk in the oat base if you prefer a thinner or thicker consistency.
  • Sweetness: Taste the oat mixture before chilling and adjust the sweetener to your preference. The brown sugar in the swirl and powdered sugar in the glaze also add sweetness.
  • Glaze Option: If you don't want a cream cheese glaze, a simple drizzle of maple syrup or a sprinkle of extra cinnamon on top is also delicious.
  • Make-Ahead & Storage: These overnight oats are perfect for meal prep! Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Add the cream cheese glaze just before serving.
  • Protein Boost: Stir a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder into the oat mixture before chilling for an extra protein kick. You might need an extra splash of milk.
  • Warm Option: While designed to be enjoyed cold, you can gently heat your overnight oats in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave for 30-60 seconds if you prefer them warm. Add a splash of milk if they thicken too much.
