Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Base:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food colouring red, green, or your choice
  • Holiday sprinkles for topping

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease lightly.

Make Cookie Dough:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until combined.

Bake:

  • Spread dough evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20–22 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely.

Prepare Frosting:

  • Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, cream, vanilla, and food colouring. Beat until smooth and fluffy.

Decorate:

  • Spread frosting over cooled cookie base. Top with sprinkles. Chill slightly for cleaner slicing.

Notes

  • Use festive cookie cutters to cut into shapes after chilling.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
