Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ½ oz orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • ¼ oz agave syrup optional, for sweetness
  • Salt or sugar for rimming the glass
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  • Begin by rimming your glass with salt or sugar. To do this, run a lime wedge around the rim and dip it into salt or sugar.
  • In a shaker, combine bourbon, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup (if using).
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over ice.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness of the drink by adding more or less agave syrup to suit your taste.
  • If you prefer a smoother, less tart flavor, use fresh orange juice instead of orange liqueur.
  • To make a larger batch, simply multiply the ingredients by the number of servings desired.
  • Use a good-quality bourbon for the best flavor in this cocktail.
  • This drink is best served fresh, but can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a few hours.
  • Experiment with flavored syrups, such as a honey or maple syrup, for a unique twist.
  • If you prefer a chilled drink without ice, shake and strain into a chilled glass.
  • For a smoky flavor, try using a smoked bourbon or adding a dash of smoked paprika.
