For the Cake:
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- ½ cup unsalted butter cut into pieces
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 large eggs room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
For Topping (Optional):
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Whipped cream or berries optional
Prepare Cake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line with parchment paper.
Melt chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in short bursts in microwave, stirring until smooth.
Whisk in sugar, salt, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
Sift in cocoa powder and gently fold into the mixture until smooth.
Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are set and center is slightly soft.
Cool and Serve:
Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a plate. Remove parchment paper carefully.
Dust with powdered sugar and top with whipped cream or berries if desired. Serve at room temperature.
