These Backyard BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches are tender, smoky, and saucy—perfect for outdoor parties, game day, or weekend dinners. Slow-cooked pork piled high on buns makes this a true comfort food favourite.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 –4 lbs pork shoulder also called pork butt
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce plus more for serving
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 8 hamburger buns

Optional Toppings:

  • Coleslaw
  • Pickles
  • Extra BBQ sauce

Instructions
 

Season Pork:

  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder. Rub mixture all over the pork.

Cook the Pork:

  • Slow Cooker: Place seasoned pork in slow cooker. Add BBQ sauce and vinegar. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours.
  • Oven: Place pork in a covered Dutch oven at 300°F (150°C) for 3–4 hours.

Shred Pork:

  • When pork is tender, shred it using two forks. Stir it back into the juices.

Assemble Sandwiches:

  • Toast buns if desired. Pile pulled pork onto buns and top with coleslaw, pickles, and extra sauce.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Pulled pork can be made up to 2 days ahead and reheated.
  • Serving Idea: Serve with chips, baked beans, or corn on the cob.
  • Spicy Version: Add hot sauce or cayenne to the rub for extra heat.
