  • 1 lb 450g ground chicken or diced chicken breast
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 head butter lettuce or romaine leaves separated
  • Optional: shredded carrots or chopped water chestnuts for crunch

Instructions

  • Cook Chicken: Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.
  • Add Flavor: Stir in garlic and ginger; cook 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Make Sauce: Add soy sauce, hoisin, rice vinegar, and honey. Stir to coat chicken evenly and cook another 2 minutes.
  • Finish: Remove from heat, stir in green onions and sesame seeds.
  • Serve: Spoon chicken mixture into lettuce leaves. Top with optional shredded carrots or water chestnuts for added texture. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Chicken mixture can be prepared ahead and reheated; assemble lettuce cups just before serving.
  • Flavor Variations: Add sriracha for extra heat or peanuts for crunch.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve as a main dish, appetizer, or part of an Asian-inspired meal.
  • Storage Tips: Store chicken filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; do not store assembled lettuce cups.
